Manchester United XI: De Gea; Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Blind; Fellaini, Carrick, Herrera; Young, Rooney, Mata

Subs: Valdes, Rafael, Rojo, McNair, Januzaj, Di Maria, Falcao

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has made one change to the side that beat Aston Villa last weekend for the game against Manchester City this afternoon, with Chris Smalling coming in for Marcos Rojo.

Smalling will take a place alongside Phil Jones at the heart of defence as they look to shackle City’s Sergio Aguero.

Daley Blind continues at left-back following a string of superb recent performances there against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Villa.

Meanwhile, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera will be looking to establish control in midfield.

Their work should allow Ashley Young and Juan Mata the freedom to support Wayne Rooney in attack.

On the substitute’s bench, Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao will hope to make an impact if things aren’t going to plan for United. Vincent Kompany has overcome a niggling injury to start for Manuel Pellegrini’s side but United will still be confident of grabbing a goal or two at Old Trafford.
