Louis van Gaal fully expects Manchester United to sign more players in the summer transfer window.
Last summer saw United spend a club record £150m on six new signings but the squad is still in need of investment in order for the club to challenge for the Premier League title again as well as the Champions League if a top four spot is secured.
Van Gaal is normally very tight lipped on anything to do with transfers but when questioned by reporters at his pre-Man City press conference, van Gaal said: “I don’t have any doubt that players are coming to Manchester United.”
A total of 14 players left United last summer either on loan or permanently and six arrived. It was the single biggest overhaul which had ever been seen at Old Trafford but it was wholly necessary.
This season has shown where the weaknesses still lie in the squad. An injury depleted defence has marred United for so much of the campaign so at least one new centre-back is expected to arrive as well as a right-back given that Antonio Valencia has now become first choice in that position despite being a winger.
Van Gaal has already made it clear he wants to sign a central midfielder and with both Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie facing uncertain futures, there could also be a new striker arriving in the summer.
As well as that, van Gaal’s desire to move to 4-3-3 on a permanent basis means there is every chance he wants to sign a new winger to suit that formation.
All in all, this summer is shaping up to be all about Man United once again. The club stole the headlines last year and with van Gaal still yet to have the full squad he wants, you can expect much of the same this year.
