Supporters inside the ground were deafeningly loud from the first whistle and got behind the team at every opportunity.
They were rewarded with a spectacular performance from Man United as they recorded a resounding win over their noisy neighbours.
Carrick hailed the atmosphere at Old Trafford and revealed how happy he was to beat City:
I enjoyed that… OT is a special place, especially on days like that. Sometimes 3 points means a little bit more. pic.twitter.com/129VNS4nux
Every single United player put in a good shift during the game but Carrick stood out, particularly during the second half.
Up against world-class talent in City’s midfield, Carrick was by far and away the most composed player on the ball and regularly found his teammates with a fantastic range of passing.
Criminally underrated, the Englishman seems to only have been appreciated by United fans in recent years but now the rest of the league is catching up when it comes to recognising Carrick’s talent. He had to come off with an injury in the final few minutes of the game against City but Louis van Gaal will be hoping he can shake it off in time for Chelsea next weekend.
