Manchester United are set to make an announcement tomorrow details for their pre-season tour of the USA.
The tour is expected to be shortened to two weeks in comparison to three weeks from last season and is a consequence of Louis van Gaal wanting less travel for his players.
Last year as part of the Champions Cup, United travelled across USA for three weeks and had to fly thousands of miles which didn’t help with preparations for the upcoming season.
Now, having told the board he didn’t want that to happen again, van Gaal looks to have got his own way which will benefit the players in terms of recovery.
United are likely to fly out to USA in July because the Premier League season starts earlier than usual on 8 August and van Gaal wants at least a week back in England before the campaign gets under way.
A shorter tour should really help United at the start of next season. The football in the last pre-season was very high tempo and saw the players return from the tour somewhat drained.
The corporate nature of United means a pre-season tour is necessary but van Gaal getting his own way should help the players.
