Georginio Wijnadlum would like to play under Louis van Gaal again

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed he would like to link up with former manager Louis van Gaal again someday.

Van Gaal named Wijnaldum in his Netherlands squad for the 2014 World Cup despite the fact that the 24-year-old had been sidelined for seven months through injury.

Wijnaldum played his part in the Netherlands’ success at the tournament as they were eventually knocked out at the semi-final stage by Argentina.

The attacker has a good relationship with van Gaal and admitted he would open to working with him again should he want him at Manchester United.

When asked about the possibility of playing under van Gaal again, Wijnaldum said: “Of course I would like to work with him again. He [van Gaal] is a good trainer, and makes players better. I work really fine with him and he is a great man.

“He gave me a chance and opportunity to play in a World Cup after seven months out injured, and I am thankful for that. He helped me get my confidence back.”

Playing alongside United target Memphis Depay, Wijnaldum has skippered PSV to the brink of their first Eredivisie title in seven years.

United appear to be keen on an elite midfielder having been linked with the likes of Paul Pogba and Kevin Strootman this season but Wijnaldum would be a solid buy if United were looking for cheap alternatives. Van Gaal got the best out of him at the World Cup and there is nothing to suggest that he can’t do the same at Old Trafford.
