Daley Blind set to miss Chelsea game due to injury from Vincent Kompany tackle

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed Daley Blind is out of Saturday’s game against Chelsea because of a challenge by Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany.

Blind was left in agony following the tackle during United’s 4-2 victory over City last weekend.

It was a reckless challenge but the City captain only received a yellow card from referee Mark Clattenburg. Blind played on after the incident but it appears that it left some lasting damage.

Van Gaal blamed Kompany for Blind’s injury and updated fans on why Michael Carrick, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones will also miss the Chelsea game.

Speaking about his team’s injuries, van Gaal said: ”They are all from the game against City. Blind played on because he always wants to, but the tackle from Kompany was the reason.

“Jones injured himself in the second half. Rojo, he was complaining [of a knock] after the match, and Carrick was also off. We had a big hope that Blind and Jones could reach this game but they can’t.”

Manchester derbies are typically blood and thunder affairs but fans would not have expected so many players to come away from it with injuries.

United’s squad has been left in tatters as a result and players such as Paddy McNair and Radamel Falcao may need to come into the starting XI. It’s a sad state of affairs ahead of what is a big game but if anyone can bring out the best in United’s fringe players, it is van Gaal.
