Michael Carrick has been ruled out of Manchester United’s game against Chelsea this weekend.
Given how important Carrick has been in Man United’s excellent run of form which has seen them beat Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Man City, it’s a big blow ahead of the tough away game against Chelsea.
United were on a great run of form with six wins in a row but the injury curse has now struck once again to throw a spanner in the works.
In many ways, Carrick is United’s most important player. When he is on form, the team generally follows suit and the fact van Gaal’s side have won 75% of games he has played in comparison to only 48% without him is indicative of that importance.
Carrick has had a torrid season when it comes to injuries and has had to deal with two long spells on the sidelines but ever since returning this year he has been imperious in midfield.
Now, United have a tough time replacing him, least not because Chelsea have a very strong midfield in Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic.
