Di Maria has struggled at Man United since the start of 2015 and has been limited to a number of substitute appearances thanks to the form of Ashley Young.
However, reports now suggest Di Maria is prepared to stay at United for another campaign as he is in discussions to extend the lease on his apartment in Manchester city centre.
The Argentine may be going through a rough patch but he is undoubtedly a world-class talent. Players of his quality do not come around often and it would be unwise of United to let go of Di Maria so soon after signing him.
Against Chelsea, his deft pass nearly set Radamel Falcao through on goal for an equaliser but the Colombian was offside. Whilst it wasn’t a game changing substitution, Di Maria was at least attempting to make things happen.
Fans have seen what confidence can do to the likes of Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini this season and Di Maria just needs more of the same before he gets back to top form. If anyone can turn around his fortunes, it is van Gaal.
