The form of Daley Blind during Manchester United’s best period of the season saw Shaw resigned to a spot on the bench and stories during the week over his first season at the club didn’t help.
An injury to Blind allowed Luke Shaw to make his return to the United starting XI against his side boyhood side Chelsea.
Given his lack of game time, the 19-year-old could have been seen as a weak link but he was at the heart of the majority of United’s attacks down the left, regularly showing his pace to overlap Ashley Young.
It was a more familiar role for Shaw, rather than being asked to beat a man himself as he had to in a 3-5-2, Shaw could ease his way past his man and United fans were more than pleased with his return:
Shaw is doing v well

When Luke Shaw can consistently play and not be injured, he's going to be some left-back. Showing signs of class with his runs and crosses.

Shaw has been brilliant on the overlap.

Shaw got in behind the Chelsea defence several times as the game wore on, beating several opponents in one go to set up a rare chance for former blue, Juan Mata.
It now poses an issue for Louis van Gaal moving forward, Blind’s form doesn’t deserve to see him dropped from the team, but it would be hard to take Shaw out after such a good performance.
