Patrice Evra: Sir Alex Ferguson told me I would be a great manager

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson told him he would be a great manager one day along with Ryan Giggs.

Evra left Man United to join Juventus last summer following a highly successful spell at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Giggs had a short spell as interim manager of United last year before taking a role as Louis van Gaal’s assistant.

The Dutchman has often spoke of how impressed he is with Giggs’ attention to detail during their time working together which is a testament to his qualities.

As for Evra, he revealed he has been taking his coaching qualifications after receiving an endorsement from Ferguson before he retired.

Speaking about coaching, Evra said: ”There are strange feelings that have come which at first I did not have. Before Ferguson left he called me into his office.

“He told me ‘Pat, I’ll tell you something very important. There are two players who will be great managers from this team. That’s Ryan Giggs and you.’

“I passed some of my coach qualifications in Manchester. I’ve done all these things quietly. I want to pass this coaching qualification and afterwards we’ll see.”

Evra undoubtedly had a great intelligence on the pitch and read the game very well but the revelation that he wants to become a coach will surprise many fans.

However, it raises the possibility that the Frenchman could eventually come back to the club in a senior capacity one day which would delight the Old Trafford faithful. After a famously shaky debut against Manchester City, Evra went on to become one of United’s greatest ever left-backs and he remains a firm favourite at the club.
