Rafael keen on Manchester United stay but fears he may be sold – report

Manchester United defender Rafael is keen on staying at Old Trafford but fears he will be sold at the end of the season, according to the Mirror.

The Brazilian has barely featured for Man United since the start of the year despite working his way back to full fitness.

Instead, van Gaal has preferred the pragmatic and disciplined Antonio Valencia at right-back as he looks to make his side more solid in defence.

United have been linked with Barcelona’s Dani Alves and Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne and it appears that Rafael’s days at the club are all but over.

The 24-year-old wants to stay at United but is aware he may have no choice in the matter in the summer. It is a desperately sad situation for Rafael, who seemingly has all the attributes to continue his career at United but not to the levels van Gaal wants from his players.

He loves the club, has played at the highest level, is exciting to watch and can score goals but van Gaal just doesn’t appear to like the player. He does make a few mistakes, but he has hardly been given a chance by the Dutchman this season.

Rafael gets what it takes to be a United player but from what we’ve seen this year, van Gaal doesn’t have enough faith in him and with summer fast approaching, everything does point towards an exit for the much loved Brazilian.
