Luke Shaw is delighted to be back playing for Manchester United and is hoping to build on what he feels was his best performance since joining from Southampton in the summer.
The 19-year-old was Man United’s man of the match against Chelsea after an excellent showing, which was even more impressive when you consider it was his first game in six weeks.
Shaw will be frustrated with how it has gone for him so far at United as injuries have stopped him from settling down properly at his new club but he’ll take great confidence from how he played at Stamford Bridge.
“It was my first performance for six weeks, so it was great to be back on the pitch,” Shaw said after the full time whistle.
Asked if he felt it was his best performance since signing for United, Shaw added: “I’d like to think so. I felt really good on the pitch. I got forward a lot, but I think everyone was brilliant and we could have got more from the game. It was just one of those days – we had a lot of chances and just couldn’t put them away.”
As Shaw touched on, his attacking threat was excellent and he used his pace to great effect. Branislav Ivanovic simply didn’t know how to stop him and eventually ended up being booked for his troubles.
It hasn’t quite worked out as well as Shaw would have hoped for when he signed but performances like that against the Premier League’s best side are indicative of what is to come when he is fully fit and settled under Louis van Gaal.
