Robin van Persie comes through Man United U21s return unscathed and with an assist

Robin van Persie made his return from injury for Manchester United U21s in their 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

The Dutch striker lasted an hour before being taken off by Warren Joyce and will be pleased to come through the tie without injury.

Understandably, van Persie started the game quite slowly and found himself quite isolated as Man United were unable to get the ball to his feet but as the game progressed, he grew into it.

He played a key role with an assist for Sean Goss‘ equaliser and although he didn’t get on the score sheet himself, he’ll be happy with his contribution and so will Louis van Gaal.

Radamel Falcao was poor against Chelsea at the weekend up front so the return of van Persie gives United another option alongside James Wilson if Wayne Rooney is forced to play in midfield again.

Van Persie has missed the majority of this season either directly through injury or indirectly with poor performances but with a handful of games left, there is every chance he could score some goals before the season ends.
