Manchester United’s performance against Chelsea earned plenty of deserved praise for how well constructed and composed it was but, ultimately, Louis van Gaal‘s side came away with nothing.
In football, results are remembered, not performances, and with that in mind, could van Gaal go back to a starting XI which served him so well at points this season?
If Michael Carrick and Daley Blind are both passed fit, will Luke Shaw be marginalised and have to settle for a place back on the bench? It seems harsh to even consider the prospect given that Shaw was man of the match against Chelsea but van Gaal has little time for sentiment. If he feels it will help the team, he’ll do it.
This XI has the personnel in which pushed aside Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Manchester City so van Gaal has plenty of reason to put faith in it once again away to face Everton.
