Everton boss Roberto Martinez expecting tough encounter against Manchester United

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is expecting a tough encounter against an “incredible” Manchester United side when the two teams meet in the Premier League on Sunday.

Martinez’s side have gone through a tough season and currently sit 12th in the table.

Meanwhile, Man United have looked impressive in recent weeks and went on a six-game winning streak before losing 1-0 against Chelsea last weekend.

Martinez believes United will do all they can to win the game and has warned Everton that they must be on top form if they are to get a positive result.

Speaking about the fixture, Martinez said: “I do expect Manchester United to come to Goodison and go for the win and that will make for a very open game.

“You look at the level and form Manchester United are in and you can see that they are going to finish the season really strongly, so from that point of view we are really looking to test ourselves against that sort of team.

“Apart from the defeat they had at the weekend, they are on an incredible run of form.”

The defeat at Stamford Bridge stunted United’s progress somewhat but Everton would be wise to make special plans for players such as Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera.

Louis van Gaal will also be hoping Michael Carrick is fit for the clash as he has proved to be a central figure in his side’s play this term. In any case, a win is hugely important for United as they look to stay ahead of Manchester City in the race for the top four.
