David de Gea – Was there ever any doubt? No change for our no.1 goalkeeper?
Antonio Valencia – No alternative now that Rafael is out for the season with broken ribs.
Chris Smalling – Will be overflowing with confidence having signed a new Manchester United contract this week.
Paddy McNair – Tough choice here but we went for McNair so he could continue his excellent form from Chelsea.
Luke Shaw – Similar to McNair, Shaw needs to start after how well he played last week.
Ander Herrera – Had to play a deeper role at Stamford Bridge but Carrick’s return would free him up.
Marouane Fellaini – Back at his old ground, Fellaini will be desperate to impress.
Juan Mata – The graceful Juan certainly needs to start.
Ashley Young – His crosses to Fellaini could be one of the most important aspects of the game.
Wayne Rooney – Typically plays badly on Merseyside but it won’t stop van Gaal from starting his captain.
