With all the reports gathering pace about Ilkay Gundogan and Memphis Depay both joining Manchester United, it’d be rude not to take a look at how Louis van Gaal could line his team up with both players in a new starting XI.
Gundogan’s style of play is something Louis van Gaal wants to have in his squad. Defensively he is very solid and he has the tenacity to add a dynamic going forward as well. That’s something which Ander Herrera also does but van Gaal wants a box-to-box midfielder who has more defensive nous, hence why Gundogan fits the bill in that regard.
As for Depay, he’s everything van Gaal wants in a winger. His pace is electric and with 20 goals to his name in the Eredivisie this year, he’s got a great end product.
Bringing both of these players into the starting XI certainly does bring a new look to United’s side:
What’s great about this starting XI is just how many good players United have who could also warrant places in it such as Juan Mata, Ashley Young, Daley Blind and Robin van Persie.
When it comes to the squad next year, it has to be bigger and stronger if United are to challenge and compete in the Champions League as well as domestically, so having players of that quality ready to bring into the team is essential.
