United Peoples TV: “Paddy McNair was poor but Chris Smalling played well” Everton 3-0 Man United

by Sam Peoples

Paddy McNair earned a number of plaudits for his performance against Chelsea but he struggled against Everton on Sunday.

The Northern Irishman was at fault for James McCarthy’s opening goal and Roberto Martinez’s side generally gave him the runaround at Goodison Park on the way to a 3-0 win.

McNair was only playing due to injuries to Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo and it is hard to criticise him given he has been thrown in at the deep end.

Instead, fans should be focussing on the fact that United need to bring some quality depth into the squad in order to avoid relying on a 19-year-old.

Mats Hummels and Raphael Varane have been linked with moves to Old Trafford, as has Aymeric Laporte.

Meanwhile, Chris Smalling did a good job against Everton and was one of United’s standout performers on the day.

The Englishman is establishing himself as a key part of Louis van Gaal’s side and his display will give him plenty of confidence going forward despite the result.
