Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed a decision over the future of Ilkay Gundogan will happen soon.
The 24-year-old has been at the centre of heavy speculation this week following reports from Germany linked him with a move to Manchester United.
Although Dortmund are standing firm there has been no contact with United, Zorc admits a decision is expected imminently and said there was no update on Mats Hummels’ future for the time being.
“Gundogan’s situation isn’t straightforward, because his contract expires in 2016,” Zorc told Kicker in Germany.
“There will be a decision soon.
“As far as I know, Hummels’ contract still runs until 2017. We did not receive any offer that we should think about.
“There will surely be some changes to the team this summer. Maybe more changes than in recent years. But we won’t radically change our team.”
It’s been a strange 72 hours regarding Gundogan as reports on Friday from Sky Sports and Sky Sports Germany were both extremely confident a deal to take him to Old Trafford was all but done. However, Dortmund have since denied that is the case.
That being said, with an announcement expected on Gundogan’s future soon, this could yet still be wrapped up either way very soon rather than being long and drawn out.
