The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under David Moyes last year and earned himself a new five-year deal but progress has stalled this season with the Belgian struggling to establish himself in Louis van Gaal’s side.
Januzaj is yet to score this term having only been handed eight starts by van Gaal and competition for places means that situation is unlikely to change next year.
Reports suggest van Gaal is considering letting the youngster go out on loan as a result. A short-term move would make sense for him, especially given the potential arrival of PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay, as regular first-team minutes is so important for any developing youngster.
Opportunities may be hard to come by if Depay arrives so Januzaj would benefit from some regular first-team football elsewhere.
Many may see such a move as a step down for Januzaj but fans have to remember he is still in the very early stages of his development. Some time away from the spotlight could do wonders for his career.
