Real Madrid are becoming increasingly confident that Manchester United keeper David de Gea will leave Old Trafford and return to Spain with the European champions in the summer, according to MailOnline’s Adam Crafton.
According to the report, talks between De Gea’s representatives and Madrid have been going on for months.
The player himself has also admitted to friends that he wants to join Madrid in order to consolidate his position as Spain’s No.1 goalkeeper.
However, Madrid are still weighing up whether or not Iker Casillas can retain his place as their first-choice in-between the sticks as the veteran has enjoyed an upturn in fortunes since the start of 2015.
De Gea’s feelings are said to be dictated more by the lure of Madrid rather than any sense of dissatisfaction with life at United.
All the signs are pointing towards De Gea’s summer exit and fans are becoming increasingly accepting of his potential departure by the day.
If the 24-year-old really wanted to stay at United then he would have publicly dismissed the Madrid rumours by now. It is a shame given United made him into one of the world’s best in his position but supporters will know that no-one is bigger than the club.
