Real Madrid facing transfer ban – report

by Ben Topliss

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are facing transfer bans similar to the one Barcelona is currently serving due to both clubs signing minors, according to Cadena Cope.

Atletico Madrid were alerted to the possible ban by FIFA on Tuesday while Madrid will be notified on Wednesday.

Barcelona were found guilty of breaching FIFA rules with some youngsters they signed last year and were subsequently banned from signing players in 2015.

Madrid and Atletico are said to have committed the same crime, meaning both teams will face a similar punishment.

The potential ban would impact Madrid’s pursuit of Manchester United keeper David de Gea, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu this season.

If they do incur a punishment, it is likely that Madrid will appeal. This may leave them able to sign players this summer before they are banned, meaning they will be under pressure to sign the Spaniard.

As a result, United could demand a substantial fee from Madrid as they wouldn’t have much choice in the matter and if they don’t sign him, De Gea, who is entering the final year of his contract at United, would be under pressure himself to sign a new deal as he would have to wait longer than a year to join Madrid.

Either way, any potential ban for the European champions would be good news for Louis van Gaal.
