Such is the furore over Memphis Depay‘s future, somebody has taken it upon themselves to make it easy for everybody to keep on top of it all. Where is Depay? With this live website, now you’ll always know.
It’s a fantastic comical take on the Depay rumours going round but it is representative of the multitude of current murmurings among fans of clubs who are linked with the 21-year-old.
First and foremost, Manchester United are considered favourites to sign Depay this year. He worked with Louis van Gaal during the summer at the World Cup playing for Holland, PSV boss Philip Cocu has hinted the van Gaal factor could be an advantage and the track record of United’s boss when it comes to helping youngsters progress is second to none.
The likes of Andres Iniesta and Thomas Muller have got van Gaal to thank for their breakthrough into senior football and at United he has already given a senior debut to more than five youngsters, so Depay knows he will get a perfect mentor in van Gaal.
Other than United, Liverpool are the club who are being linked most frequently with Depay and looking further back, Tottenham Hotspur’s name comes into the equation, although those rumours have died down somewhat.
From a neutral perspective, it’s hard to look past Man United as to where Depay will play next season. The van Gaal factor is hugely influential and with Champions League football all but confirmed following Liverpool’s loss to Hull City, United can offer Depay the opportunity to play in Europe’s best competition which he earned by winning the title with PSV.
Only time will tell but there is a widespread feeling that United are not going to hang around with their transfers this summer and are keen to do business early and with the pre-season tour starting halfway through June, van Gaal will be keen to have his new players with him if possible.
