Nani will be coming back to Manchester United this summer and feels he is still good enough to play in a more competitive league than the Portuguese.
The 28-year-old has spent the season on loan at his old club Sporting Lisbon where he re-joined as part of a deal to bring Marcos Rojo to Old Trafford and during his time there has impressed, both domestically and in the UEFA Champions League.
Louis van Gaal was happy to send Nani away for a year as he didn’t feel he was an important part of the squad but the winger will return to the club with a new found confidence which he had lacked at United ever sine his injuries.
“I am a Manchester United player and I must return,” Nani told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
“I can never say it’s impossible [to continue at Sporting].
“I believe I am now more confident to compete for a place in whatever team is. I am able to play in a more competitive league. But nothing is concrete yet.”
Nani’s future all depends on what van Gaal wants to do with him. On his day, he’s a very dangerous winger but as always the case with him, great performances are sandwiched in between games where he has zero end product. As for his defensive duties, that was never his forte.
While Nani almost certainly has the talent to play for a good team in one of Europe’s best leagues, there’s only a small chance that will be for United.
