Michael Carrick set to miss West Brom game with injury

Louis van Gaal has confirmed Michael Carrick will miss Manchester United’s game against West Brom with through injury.

The 33-year-old has missed Man United’s last two games against Chelsea and Everton, both of which resulted in losses, and will now miss a third game in succession.

Carrick’s importance to the team becomes obvious when he is absent as has been the case over the last couple of game weeks. With him in the side, United were on a six game winning streak and in fantastic form but something has been missing with him out of the side.

The dominant performance against Chelsea lacked a cutting edge in the final third and Carrick’s incisive passing going forwards were certainly a big factor in that, so it’s a concern for van Gaal that he won’t feature once again this weekend.

In his absence, Daley Blind could be drafted into defensive midfield once again but with Luke Shaw also absent from the game, the Dutchman could be forced into the left-back role, meaning Ander Herrera might be given the task of playing as a defensive midfielder like he was against Chelsea.
