Louis van Gaal confirms Luke Shaw groin injury

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed Luke Shaw will miss the game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday due to a groin problem.

Shaw has endured a torrid season in terms of injuries which have restricted him to just 19 appearances for Man United in all competitions.

It is doubly frustrating for fans as he was so impressive in United’s two previous games against Chelsea and Everton.

Van Gaal revealed the news at his weekly press conference on Friday but stopped short of putting a timescale on Shaw’s return:

Shaw had a fantastic injury record at previous club Southampton so his current issues are baffling since joining United in a £27m deal.

The 19-year-old’s fitness was criticised by van Gaal on United’s pre-season tour of the United States last summer.

Whether it is van Gaal’s training methods or something else which is to blame for Shaw’s problems, fans will be hoping he makes a quick return before pushing on ahead of the next campaign.
