Manchester United have made initial inquiries to Inter Milan over the availability of goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, reports Gianluca Di Marzio.
With the future of David de Gea not yet secure, the 30-year-old goalkeeper from Inter Milan is reportedly viewed as an alternative to the Spaniard were he to complete a move to Real Madrid in the summer.
Hugo Lloris has also been identified as a De Gea alternative and while Man United’s focus is almost certainly on getting De Gea to sign a new contract, it would be foolish of them to not look at alternatives.
Inter Milan are languishing in eighth position in the Serie A and are no longer the powerhouse they use to be, so United would be a very attractive move for Handanovic and as his contract expires next summer, Inter wouldn’t be able to command a substantial fee for him.
We’re hoping inquiries into the availability of Handanovic prove to be nothing more than an unnecessary contingency plan for United but it is a plan they must have.
What it also does place questions over is whether Victor Valdes is viewed as a long-term replacement to De Gea or not given that he joined the club in January.
