Marcos Rojo and Jonny Evans both ruled out of West Bromwich Albion game

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed Marcos Rojo and Jonny Evans will miss the game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday due to injury.

Rojo has been been missing since the 3-1 victory against Aston Villa at the start of April. Meanwhile, Evans has only just returned from a six-game ban for spitting on Newcastle United’s Papiss Cisse.

Paddy McNair has been filling in alongside Chris Smalling and he impressed in the 1-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Northern Irishman was poor against Everton last time out and was at fault for James McCarthy’s opening goal on the way to a 3-0 loss.

Rojo and Evans’ continued absence will be a concern for Louis van Gaal as he looks to get Man United back to winning ways.

United have been ravaged by injuries all season long and the Dutchman will be keen to establish a regular centre-back pairing. Thankfully, Phil Jones has been passed fit for the weekend, although he faces a late fitness test.

Perhaps that is why the club have been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. If United are to challenge for domestic and European honours next season they will need a defensive partnership they can rely on.
