Louis van Gaal has hinted Angel di Maria is going to return to Manchester United’s starting XI against West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
The Argentinian hasn’t completed the full 90 minutes for Man United since Preston on 16 February and hasn’t started in the Premier League since Newcastle away nearly two months ago.
It will have been an extremely frustrating time for Di Maria but Man United’s form stopped van Gaal from changing his side.
However, off the back of two consecutive defeats, van Gaal is ready to bring Di Maria back into his starting XI and give him another opportunity.
When asked about Di Maria at his pre-match press conference, van Gaal said: “Normally he would have played, but in the last few weeks the team was winning so he wasn’t been able to play.
“Now, we have been losing matches, so the chance of him coming back is higher. It is always like that.”
Ashley Young may drop into the left-back role to give room for Di Maria to start on the wing or he could potentially come in to left central midfield where he has also played this season.
Much has been said about Di Maria’s indifferent season so far but he’ll now be given the opportunity to turn it around, something he’ll want to do emphatically with a strong performance against West Brom.
