Manchester United slumped to their third defeat in a row, their second in consecutive seasons at home to West Bromwich Albion.

It was another frustrating display, a world away from the 4-2 victory over Manchester City, the last time United even mustered up a Premier League goal.

It was the first time United have lost three games in a row in the league since 2001, and despite a few good saves from Boaz Myhill, United didn’t look like creating a meaningful opportunity.

The best chance fell to the returning Robin van Persie after Saido Berahino after he was judged to have handled the ball inside the box.

But Myhill saved Van Persie’s poor penalty, before also spectacularly saving long range efforts from the Dutchman and substitute Angel Di Maria.

Chris Brunt’s deflected free-kick was all it took to defeat United, who now sit just four points clear of Liverpool, with three games to go.
