Will Keane to assess future after Sheffield Wednesday loan spell

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United striker Will Keane has admitted he will consider his future at Old Trafford once he returns from a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

Keane has scored three goals in 11 appearances since he joined the Owls on a short-term deal in the winter transfer window.

However, a few niggling injuries have stalled his progress somewhat at Hillsborough.

Despite being in and out the team, Keane has enjoyed his spell with Wednesday and suggested he may make the move permanent in the summer.

Speaking about the loan, Keane said: ”I think as a whole it’s been positive. I have had plenty of minutes on the pitch and had a role to play in the team.

“There have been plenty of ups and downs and I’ll take a lot from it. I have to go back to United after the weekend and I’ll re-assess things.

“If my options are limited at United I will look at my options and I would like to think that this club would be one.”

It would be a shame to lose Keane after he worked his way through the youth ranks at United but it is unlikely that he will get much of a chance in the first-team in the future.

Another promising striker, James Wilson, has also been struggling to get in Louis van Gaal’s starting XI and there have been reports he may also be sent out on loan. Every game is crucial for United and there are few opportunities to risk giving youngsters an extended run in the team.
