The 24-year-old’s current deal expires next year and Man United fans are hoping the Spaniard decides to commit his long-term future to the club by signing a new deal which would see him remain at United past this summer.
However, he has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid as a consequence of his excellent progression over the last few years into one of the best goalkeepers in the world, leading to widespread fears he will leave this summer.
Much has been said this year about the new signings which Man United are going to make and how important they are but nobody is more important than tying De Gea into a new long-term deal. He’s irreplaceable and still only 24 which is a baby in goalkeeping terms, so will continue to get better with each passing season.
If De Gea did sign as The Mirror suggests, it would be such a statement of intent from United that they held onto one of the world’s best despite interest from the likes of Madrid.
Also, it would be a great show of belief in Louis van Gaal‘s plans over the next few years if De Gea wanted to stay and be part of them.
