Memphis Depay unlikely to join Paris St Germain – report

by Ben Topliss

Sources close to Paris St Germain are pessimistic about the possibility of signing Memphis Depay this summer.

Only this week PSV technical director Marcel Brands insisted PSG and Liverpool were both ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Depay, so these latest reports from France are in direct contrast to them.

The 21-year-old is destined to leave PSV this summer having achieved his aim of helping the club win the Eredivisie with what was a stunning individual season that saw him score 21 goals in 28 league appearances, which is all the more impressive when you consider he is a winger.

For PSV, it’s in their best interest to have as many clubs interested in Depay as possible in order to create a bidding war but for United, the fewer clubs the better.

Louis van Gaal‘s United will always be considered a strong candidate for Depay’s signature this summer but even if PSG are out of the race to sign him, there are still other clubs interested which will ensure the price for him is kept high due to the demand.
