Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has reiterated that Manchester United will need to pay €50m (£36.8m) if they want to sign Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.
Otamendi has enjoyed a fine season in La Liga and Man United are rumoured to be interested in securing his services.
United were reportedly close to striking a deal for the Argentine back in the winter transfer window but a move never materialised.
Balague insisted Louis van Gaal is still interested in Otamendi but that they will need to stump up €50m for Valencia to let him go.
Speaking about United, Balague said: “Manchester United will make another offer for Otamendi, but unless it’s €50m (£36.8m), Valencia doesn’t want to sell.”
United could certainly do with defensive reinforcements given the fact that Paddy McNair has had to fill in there in recent weeks.
Whether the club is willing to make Otamendi one of the most expensive defenders in the world is another question. United have money to spend but they will not want to pay over the odds for players ahead of the next campaign.
