Manchester United’s potential 4-3-3 vs Crystal Palace – Robin van Persie dropped

by Ben Topliss

Robin van Persie’s penalty miss against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford last weekend proved costly for Manchester United as the away side eventually secured a 1-0 win.

Louis van Gaal was clearly angry with the striker and subsequently stripped him of penalty duties.

Although he enjoyed an encouraging start against the Baggies, it was a frustrating performance from van Persie overall and he may face the axe against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Man United’s best performances this season have come with Wayne Rooney up top and this may be in van Gaal’s thinking when he decides his starting XI.

Elsewhere, Luke Shaw may return at left-back after he was forced to miss the game against West Brom due to injury.

His inclusion could allow Daley Blind to move into midfield, although fans will still be concerned about the continued absence of Michael Carrick.

Finally, Phil Jones could feature after playing for the U21s against Southampton on Monday night. United have been poor defensively in recent weeks and Jones would go a long way towards rectifying that.
