Tim Sherwood is keen for Tom Cleverley to join Aston Villa on a permanent deal but feels the Midlands club have to stay in the Premier League to make it a possibility.
The Manchester United midfielder has spent the season on loan at Villa and has clearly impressed Sherwood with his performances.
Cleverley has played the full 90 minutes in his last four appearances and scored two goals as well, so has started to become an influential player in their fight to avoid relegation.
Speaking about a potential deal, Sherwood said there was already an offer on the table for Cleverley and admits staying up is likely to be a necessity for any deal to happen.
“I’ve told him,” Sherwood explained. “Tom’s got a decision to make and we’re willing to wait until the end of the season for that.
“We’ve got a lot of hard work to be done like making sure we are safe first or it won’t be up for discussion.
“He’ll have a lot of options in the Premier League, He’s not going to want to join a team in the Championship.”
Cleverley is a free agent in the summer and although he has shown improved performances as of late for Villa, it’s very unlikely Louis van Gaal will offer him a new contract so a move to Villa is certainly an option.
Just like last summer, there is going to be a clear-out of fringe players who will have no role to play for Van Gaal as he continues to shape his squad ahead of what is expected to be a very important year for Man United.
