Memphis Depay has thanked Manchester United fans for all the messages he has received and admitted he was looking forward to getting started in Manchester.
The 21-year-old agreed a deal to join Man United yesterday and has been inundated with messages since. On Twitter, his account has gained nearly 70,000 followers in a 24 hour period and that’s only the tip of the iceberg in terms of the added attention and fanbase he’ll be exposed to now that he’s a United player.
As is always the case with new signings, fans wonder what shirt number Depay will take next season and although Angel di Maria was given the No.7 shirt by Louis van Gaal, it’s the number which most befits Depay’s style.
He’s a pacey, dangerous winger with a great goalscoring threat akin to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, George Best and David Beckham who wore it before him but is there any chance of him taking No.7 at United now that Di Maria is the holder of it?

It seems unlikely but Depay would certainly like that to be the case given that he was No.7 at PSV and the fact he’s adopted the #M7 hashtag on Twitter.
