Louis van Gaal confirms James Wilson is suffering from a virus

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed James Wilson is suffering from a virus ahead of the game against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Wilson has been in and out of the squad in recent months due to a number of niggling injuries.

There were reports in April that suggested the youngster may be sent out on loan so he can get some regular first-team action under his belt.

Van Gaal was non-committal over Wilson but stated may be well enough to make the substitute’s bench at Selhurst Park.

When asked about Wilson, van Gaal said: ”There is a virus in our dressing room so it’s difficult to say.

“He is already a little bit ill for one week but now he is recovering so I think he could be on the bench.”

The arrival of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven may further limit Wilson’s opportunities ahead of the next campaign.

Wilson clearly has a lot of talent but he needs a platform to build on. A short-term move away from Old Trafford would do him the world of good. Hopefully, United can wrap up Champions League qualification before the final game of the season so Wilson can get some minutes on the pitch.
