The 21-year-old was on the radar of PSG, Liverpool and Man United thanks to a wonderful season with PSV in the Eredivisie and competition for his signature was expected to be fierce.
United then moved very quickly on May 7 and a deal was announced only hours after reports from Dutch journalists that an agreement to take Depay to Old Trafford had been agreed.
Now, comments from Brands suggest United may well have lost out on Depay had Ed Woodward and co. not moved so fast for him.

It’s about time that Man United went into a race to buy a player and came out of the other side with a signature because all too often in recent years that hasn’t been the case.
Whether you look at Lucas Moura, Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil or plenty of other examples, United have been left empty handed but that has not been the case with Depay.
United move swiftly and decisively to make sure the likes of PSG and Liverpool couldn’t do anything about it. They got their man.
Last summer United were left with a transfer deadline day trolley dash but if Depay’s signing is anything to go by, Woodward and Van Gaal will be at home with their feet perched up having long completed their movement in the market.
