Wayne Rooney is set to return to his favoured position up front for tonight’s game against Crystal Palace.
Red News are reporting the early team news and having been correct on 15 out of 15 occasions across the season, there is no reason to suggest their information is now wrong.
Thanks to a succession of injuries to Michael Carrick, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw, Rooney was forced to drop into a deeper midfield role to cover his team-mates because Louis van Gaal didn’t feel he had an adequate replacement in midfield.
Subsequently, Rooney’s performances dipped and United became limp in front of goal. There are no questions about where his best position is after this season and it is a massive boost he’ll be able to start up front again.
What that news also suggests is that Blind and Shaw are likely to both start in their favoured positions in midfield and at left-back respectively.
United’s recent run of form certainly hasn’t been helped by injuries but by the looks of it, the team which Van Gaal will be able to use against Crystal Palace is going to be far more balanced than in the last three games.
