Memphis Depay has admitted to Dutch television that he went ‘crazy’ when he was told by PSV of his move to Manchester United.
The 21-year-old winger thrived under Van Gaal with Holland at the World Cup and is obviously excited about working underneath the Dutchman again.
“I went crazy when I was told Manchester United and PSV had reached an agreement,” Depay said after PSV’s win over Heracles today.
Depay also went on to discuss how important Van Gaal was in his decision to join Man United and how close he was to signing for PSG.
He added: “I will have to prove myself again at Manchester United. It’s a dream, a new challenge and a new step.
“I was really close to a transfer to Paris St Germain. I knew United were always interested but nothing was concrete.
“In the last moment, United called my manager at PSV. Of course, I spoke to Louis van Gaal. It was a difficult situation.
“After I spoke with Van Gaal, I told myself ‘I want to go there’. I’m really proud and I believe I can be a big player at United.”

Depay signed off in front of the home PSV fans in the best possible way with a stunning 30 yard free kick and its now the turn of Man United fans to get ‘crazy’ excited about his move.
He’s the sort of young, burgeoning signing who United have turned into superstars in their time at the club and there is a consensus among those who have closely watched him at PSV that he has the potential to be one of the world’s best in the future.
Only time well tell but coming to United off the back of a title winning season at PSV, Depay is in the perfect shape to use that as his platform for bigger things at Old Trafford. Now, he has the world at his feet and it will be up to him and his performances as to whether he takes full advantage of that.
