Borussia Dortmund waiting for right Ilkay Gundogan bid to sell

by Richard Laverty

Borussia Dortmund have given their latest update surrounding midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, confirming no bids have come in for the German midfielder.

Gundogan confirmed in recent weeks he wouldn’t sign a new contract at Dortmund, his current deal expires in 2016, with his club now expected to cash-in this summer.

After losing key striker Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer to Bayern Munich, the German giants will be keen to avoid a repeat of the same situation, with Manchester United seemingly interested in the player.

Despite reports that a deal had been done, Gundogan has also been linked to Bayern and could follow Lewandowski and Mario Goetze to the Allianz Arena. But for now, Dortmund have confirmed no formal bids have arrived for the midfielder.

“Our talks came to the conclusion that he won’t extend his contract and will leave in the summer,” said Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc.

“But that depends on what offers land on my table and until now we have received no offers for Gundogan.”

Gundogan was a key part of the team which won the 2012 Bundesliga and German Cup double, also scoring in the 2013 Champions League final, but ending up on the losing side at Wembley.

United are also chasing Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, and the top men at Old Trafford will be wondering whether or not they’ll be able prise both players away from the club in one swoop.
