Victor Valdes congratulates David de Gea on Crystal Palace performance

by Richard Laverty

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes was quick to congratulate the club’s number one, David de Gea, for his superb performance against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

De Gea was back to his brilliant best to deny Glenn Murray with a huge save that kept United in the game at 1-1, allowing Marouane Fellaini to score the winner soon after.

Whilst it’s easy to forget United have a top class goalkeeper sat on the bench, Valdes was quick to congratulate De Gea on Twitter, despite failing to oust him from the team since arriving in January.

Even a double-header against Cambridge United didn’t yield a debut for Valdes, and with Champions League football now confirmed, United fans will wonder if Valdes could appear before the end of the season.

Despite reports of Valdes becoming unsettled by the lack of first team action at Old Trafford, it appears there are no hard feelings towards his fellow Spain international, with their friendship seemingly continuing to grow.

The former Barcelona man may also be playing the long game, despite reports United would look for a replacement for David de Gea if/when he leaves the club, there is also the chance Valdes signed on the promise he will step straight into the number one shirt.

Whatever the situation is, it’s reassuring to see a top class goalkeeper recognising the contribution of one of th best young goalkeepers in world football.
