Memphis Depay has revealed he would love the No.7 shirt at Manchester United but insisted it was not something he was focused on at the moment.
Memphis currently wears the No.7 shirt at PSV so it comes as no surprise to hear that’s his ‘dream’ Man United number but there’s a certain Argentinian standing in the way of him taking that shirt.
Depay revealed his desire to take the No.7 shirt in an extended interview with Dutch television which was covered by MUTV on Monday evening.
Angel di Maria took over the No.7 shirt last summer which was left vacant by Antonio Valencia and his electric early season form made it look like United had finally found the right candidate to take on the shirt’s legacy.
That being said, Di Maria has suffered from indifferent form for the majority of the season but there have no suggestions from Louis van Gaal, the player or fans that the no.7 shirt should be taken away from him and given to a new signing.
Realistically, the only way in which Depay will get his hands on the No.7 shirt is if Van Gaal decides to sell Di Maria this summer.
