PSV Eindhoven and Man United reached an agreement over the £22m transfer of Depay on Thursday.
Widely considered to be one of the world’s most promising players, the deal is a major coup for United.
Blind believes Depay will improve in the Premier League and offered to help him should he need it.
Speaking about Depay, Blind said: ”Everybody is talking about it. His transfer to United is a major topic. I’m not only sensing this at the club, but also in the whole City. I’m a Dutchman, so people are asking me about Depay.
“He’ll learn immediately how big this club is. The stadium, atmosphere, supporters… everything they say about United is true.
“He has to focus on his qualities. Dribbling, showing his skills and shooting. And he simply must enjoy being here. Off course I will help him. If he needs me, I’ll be there.
“But he has to become better and faster here. Maybe he will not be the threat he is now in the Eredivisie right away in the Premier League. And after a few dribbles, the defenders will adapt to that.
“But he is skilful enough to improve his handling. He already showed at the World Cup that he can play on a higher level.”
Blind is right that fans shouldn’t expect too much from Depay early on in his career at Old Trafford. He will improve all the time but may not necessarily hit the ground running.
However, if he continues to develop in the way he has been doing, United could have a real gem on their hands. Depay has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo and fans would be delighted if he made half the impact that the Portuguese did.
