Ed Woodward confirms Manchester United are in contract talks with multiple players over extensions

Ed Woodward has confirmed Manchester United are currently in talks with multiple players at the club over contract extensions.

Speaking to investors after Man United’s latest financial report was published, Woodward’s comments are great news as far as fans are concerned.

There are a host of players who are out of contract next summer including the likes of Robin van Persie but David de Gea is without doubt the single most important player who United could possibly negotiate a new deal with.

If United aren’t deep in negotiations for De Gea at this stage then they have been doing something fundamentally wrong given that he has been incredible for Louis van Gaal‘s side this season.

Real Madrid are circling around De Gea and will continue to do so, especially if United continue to dither in negotiations for a new deal.

The real danger for United is that De Gea doesn’t sign a new contract and leaves on a free transfer next summer, much like Robert Lewandowski did when he joined Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund.

United are going to need a few new signings this year if they are to challenge on all fronts next season but getting De Gea to sign a new contract is almost more important than any arrivals. Simply put, he is irreplaceable right now.
