Memphis Depay named in provisional Netherlands squad for Euro 2016 qualifiers

Memphis Depay has been named in Guus Hiddink’s provisional Netherlands squad for the upcoming games friendly with USA and their important 2016 European Championship qualifier against Latvia.

The Netherlands must beat Latvia as they are currently six points behind Czech Republic and five behind second place Iceland, so anything but a win would be a huge dent in their hopes of reaching the finals in 2016.

Depay has played in the Netherlands last three qualifiers against Czech Republic, Iceland and Turkey but hasn’t been able to register a goal or an assist.

Now that he is firmly in the spotlight following the announcement of his move to Manchester United, Depay will be keener than ever to prove he has got what it takes to be an influential player on the international scene as well as domestically.

At the World Cup, Depay was excellent under Louis van Gaal and with the Netherlands in such dire straits thanks to their terrible form early in the group stage, they’ll need players such as Depay to step up their performances and make the difference.
