Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward expects the club to be challenging for trophies in all competitions next season.
After a disastrous campaign under David Moyes, Louis van Gaal has steadied the ship this term and has all but secured Champions League football.
It was a minimum requirement for the Dutchman but Man United fans will want the team to push on and challenge for domestic and European honours next year.
Woodward confirmed van Gaal will be expected to deliver some success to the club in the future.
Speaking about United’s plans for the future, Woodward said: “As we look forward to next season, on the playing side we expect to be challenging for trophies in all competitions.”
Woodward is absolutely right that a club of United’s stature should be challenging on all fronts every single season.
Van Gaal has almost had a ‘free pass’ this term thanks to the Champions League qualification but a similar campaign next time around would be unacceptable. Hopefully, the Dutchman will be given funds to bring in quality players as United prepare their assault on the Premier League title.
