Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has admitted he and his teammates cannot wait to play in the Champions League next season.
Man United have all but secured their return to Europe’s elite competition following a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace last weekend.
The club missed out on the competition this term following the disastrous reign of David Moyes.
Shaw admitted he is excited about the prospect of playing in the Champions League and insisted United have the quality to make an impact in the tournament.
Speaking about next season, Shaw said: ”As a 19-year-old boy, to be able to think that you’ll be playing in the Champions League next season is really incredible.
“It’s something that I want to achieve but not just me, everyone else in the squad wants to achieve it too. It’s one of the biggest competitions in world and we all want to show what we can do on the big stage.”
A club of United’s stature cannot afford to miss out on the Champions League two years in a row so the result against Palace came as a massive relief to supporters.
Louis van Gaal will know he needs to add some quality depth to his squad if they are to handle the extra workload. Thankfully, the club should be able to attract a higher calibre of player now that potential recruits know United can offer them football at the highest level.
