Andreas Pereira will play no part in Manchester United’s game against Arsenal this weekend as he is away on international duty with Brazil’s U20s ahead of the World Cup this summer.
Addressing reporters at his pre-match press conference, Louis van Gaal made it clear that Pereira is now a part of his first-team squad and it’s a testament to how much progress the 19-year-old midfielder has made this year.
Pereira has progressed through the U21s, has trained with the first-team all year, made his Premier League debut in the game against Spurs and also signed a new contract, so he’s enjoyed a fantastic season.
Next year, it’s clear he will be part of United’s first-team squad and it is going to be up to him to force his way into the starting XI.
“Pereira is also a member of our selection but he was invited to play in for Brazil in U20s World Cup,” Van Gaal said this afternoon.
By signing a new contract, Pereira committed his future to the club and ignored lucrative advances from Paris St Germain to remain at United, so he has put himself in good stead with the fans by doing that.
With the fans and Van Gaal’s backing, Pereira has the platform to succeed and it will be exciting to see how much he can progress next year.
